The Humble Shirt

Adorning Thyself for Craft

The Humble Shirt… You wouldn’t think much of it at first glance, would you?

Most people, mundanes, wouldn’t give a second thought to what they’re wearing when they go about their daily business. Or if they do, they’re thinking fashion. Business. Sex appeal. Does this shirt match my friend’s shirt? OH NO! But we are mages. For us, every item we wear, touch, or surround ourselves with has potential to be infused with power, intention, purpose. I’ve always said, if you’re going to stand before a demonic king, or any other spirit of consequence, really, you should present your best self. And this certainly includes the very fabric that graces your skin.

You see, a shirt isn’t just a piece of cloth. No. It’s the physical conduit between two major energy centres of the body: the heart and the solar plexus chakra. The heart, Anahata, governs our compassion, balance, and acts as the bridge between the earthly and the divine. The solar plexus, Manipura, is the seat of our personal power and will. A humble shirt, then, acts as a portal—a bridge—between your emotional core and your personal force of will. A well selected shirt holds the potential to help you unify these energies into a focused conduit during ritual work.

Now imagine consecrating a shirt specifically for magickal purposes—whether it be for Goetic summoning, Draconic invocation, or simple planetary work.

The moment you dedicate this garment to ritual use only, you turn an ordinary object into a magickal tool. Clothing is no different from a wand or an athame. By consecrating it, you infuse your chosen shirt with energy, intention, and focus. Each time you wear it, that charge grows stronger. A charge dedicated to creating a ritualistic familiarity between you and the spirit world, creating a portal between your harmonized power and will into your outer world.

When I first evoked a demonic king successfully (a story for another time), I adorned myself in a brand new robe set aside solely for such purposes. Woven from deep red fabric, I chose this robe for its resonance with Mars and its protective, commanding energy. This very robe became my anchor during intense evocations, much like how a soldier dons armour. Over time, the robe itself became a sort of talisman, resonating with the energy of every invocation I performed within it, aiding me in achieving quicker, more focused contact with spirits.

A new shirt, consecrated and worn exclusively for ritual, carries a similar potential.

More than that, it’s about showing respect to yourself and to the entity you’re calling forth. You wouldn’t dare enter a throne room of a human king dressed in rags, would you? So why approach a demonic sovereign, an ancient force of untold power, dressed in your most comfy PJs, in clothing you wear at the bar with your friends, smelling as though you’ve just crawled out of bed? A shirt, chosen with intention, allows you to present yourself not just as a beggar seeking knowledge, but as a mage in command of your craft, worthy of standing in the presence of such beings. Your clothing has purpose. Some clothing says, it’s time for bed. Do you want to stand in the presence of a king looking for all the world as though you’ve arrived just in time for him to tuck you in and sing you a lullaby?

Beyond mere aesthetics, this act of preparation aligns you. It says to the spirit, “I come before you with dignity, with purpose, and I have made preparations to meet you on a level of respect.” That alone strengthens the connection.

And oh, how they notice the details. Spirits, especially the Goetic ones, are not blind to symbolism. They see your efforts, your attention to the small things, and they respect you all the more for it.

The universe also, respects the path and collective appreciation for symbolism. What says magick more: a muttered incantation in front of your computer, or a seven day ritual where you collect a willow branch under the full moon to make into a dedicated wand exlusively for your craft?

I encourage you to consecrate your chosen garment. Speak over it, charge it with your intent, wash it in a ritual bath, burn incense over it, and declare that this shirt is now a tool, a portal, a bridge for your energy to flow through whenever you summon. Wear it exclusively in your sacred space, never in the mundane world. The connection between you, the material, and the spirit world will grow stronger with every ritual performed. You’ll find, with time, your focus deepens, your will sharpens, and your evocations become more potent.

In magick, nothing is insignificant. Not even the shirt on your back.
